Calgary Flames (26-18-8) at Chicago Blackhawks (24-20-8)

NOTES:

We’re not sure what’s more surprising after 52 games of the 2017-18 NHL season: that the Calgary Flames have a better record than the Blackhawks, Brandon Saad is on the 4th line, or Jeff Glass is starting in net for the second consecutive game.

But, here we are.

    Apparently, all goalies are Vikings

To me, the most surprising part is Saad on the fourth line.

Before the season started, I could see where Calgary would have more points than this Hawks team.  And maybe an injury to CC would mean someone from Rockford playing in goal.

But I never would have predicted the winger Stan brought in to play with Toews on the first line, would be so lost to be demoted to fourth line play.

If you watch Saad, his back is always to the goal.   Sharp has been doing the same thing all season too.  Hard to score when you are doing everything BUT getting yourself in a position to shoot.

keith played really well on that 5 on 3.

hey JJ, don’t know if you saw my comments from saturday but per the sportsnet.ca feed, Glass was treated like a hometown hero in calgary-was at a charity event-there were staged photo ops with former teammates from youth hockey and he had a gaggle of people at the game—puts some color on why they played glass saturday.

    cheers

Which is the worst rule in sports:  the NFL version of what constitutes a catch or the NHL rule on what constitutes goalie interference.

Yep. In the NFL a catch is whatever the ref says it is. Goalie interference is whatever the ref working that game says it is.

    Pathetic.

Imagine how many more points this team would have if their power play only converted 20%.

Agree, been saying that for a decade.

Their power play doesn’t have to be great.  Just average would have provided them several more wins.

Glass has to stop trying to play the puck.  He sucks at it.

Hartman kicked Smith in the nuts.  Watch the replay.  Hartmans left boot, real quick shot to the nuts, then he falls, then the puck trickles into the net.  The interference was called for the nut shot.  Its the only explanation.  Otherwise, Hartman isnt touching the goalie.   Zapruder Film-style, watch his left boot.  Definitely a nut shot.

If it was a good nut shot Smith would still be laying there. Although I guess any nut shot to Smith is a good one.

Hartman should get a bonus for that.

I know it’s been “over” for some time, but maybe now it’s finally over in the “Stanley can move out assets without being drawn and quartered by the faithful” kind of way. But again, move what? 15? 2? I wish it was as easy as my 7-yr old thinks it is… last week, he proposed Seabrook for Malkin… and I was like “Not gonna work Ethan… Maybe if Malkin played for the Habs, we could get that one pulled off.”
