The basics

Final score: Denver 5, Colorado College 1

Location: Ed Robson Arena

Records: Denver (6–1–1), Colorado College (5–3–0)

How It happened

— The Pioneers jumped out to a 1–0 lead just 1:46 into the first period on freshman defenseman Boston Buckberger’s third tally of the season.

— Just over three minutes later, Colorado College evened the score on Gleb Veremyev’s fourth of the year.

— Into the second period, the Denver got two quick goals, a pair of firsts for freshmen forwards Miko Matikka and Sam Harris, who both scored from the slot.

— Approaching the midway point of the third period, the Pioneers made it a 4–1 on Carter King’s fourth of the year and second on the weekend.

— King’s goal came via the power play after junior defenseman Sean Behren sent a shot-pass to his teammate’s stick on the backdoor.

— One minute later, sophomore forward Jared Wright scored his second of the year on a pass that deflected off a Colorado College defender’s skate and into the net.

— The Pios killed off all four penalties and went a perfect 9 for 9 on the penalty kill against Colorado College this weekend.
