Ward for ONE yr is just fine. Cap flexibility in 1-2-3 yrs when the Core 2.0 are difference makers will be at a premium. …..
In the Ward mold I’d be great with signing Hamhuis for 1 yr. The 35 yr old can steady a pairing, had a very good yr in DAL, skated 20:00 a night for the defensively anal Hitchcock and has a ton of back class.
July 1, 2018 at 10:17 am #7756AnonymousInactiveI see Cam Ward is already listed on under the Hawks. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/blackhawks
July 1, 2018 at 10:53 am #7759Mister RicochetParticipantNice find, Eddy. Doesn’t list the cap hit yet. Interesting seeing him listed at 34 yrs old next to Crawford, 33 yrs old!!! Gives Crow some context for the fan. It won’t be all that long before Crow is no longer a #1 and that’s assuming his “ailment(s)” haven’t taken care of that already.
July 1, 2018 at 11:27 am #7761AnonymousInactive3 Million a year for Ward and a NTC
July 1, 2018 at 11:44 am #7762Chico MakiParticipantI can hear Bowman now….”we like our team”.
Yech.
How many more #6-#7 Dmen do they need?
You have to think there’s gotta be a trade coming. Murphy? Forsling?
There’s too many bottom pairing guys
July 1, 2018 at 12:36 pm #7763Jeff OsbornKeymasterJuly 1, 2018 at 3:26 pm #7766Under Qs moustacheParticipantMason was put on waivers, 30 yrs old. 10M in cap for goalies including Forsberg. Nice Stan. 3M AND A NO TRADE CLAUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Was there a line of teams forming to give this guy the starter’s role? The Hawks were in a one team bidding war and got took. Do the Hawks dare to try slip Forsberg through waivers and down to Rockford? or is Crow questionable for the start of the season?
Seabrook’s contract looks good compared to Doughty’s. 11Mx8yrs. Yes Drew is in his prime now but 4 to 6 years of that deal is going to sink LA.
1M for Kunitz. Another waste of a contract, that will result in somebody staying in Rockford for the year. I’m guessing Wingle’s return is off the table?
July 1, 2018 at 3:49 pm #7767Chico MakiParticipantI think the “plan” is to be a lottery pick next year.
Because without at least one major trade, this team is older and slower today.

Completely agree. There hasn’t been any improvements to the team. I can’t see this team sniffing the playoffs next year without a major trade. And I’m not holding my breath.July 1, 2018 at 9:46 pm #7776Under Qs moustacheParticipant[quote quote=7767]I think the “plan” is to be a lottery pick next year. Did somebody tell McDonough that the Hawks plan was to tank? That’s not his style. Stan may have sealed his fate. Q has 12 Mil to go on his deal and I doubt that they let him walk with the dough in hand. So any new GM is going to inherit Q for a year or maybe Stan and Q get the ax together when the rebuild gets announced.
The FA contracts are crazy every year, 2018 being no exception, but it looks like 10.4M is now chump change. Stamkos should have signed for a year, as he left 4M/per on the table maybe more. That’s 28M over 7 years. Wow, and Toronto or San Jose would have gladly ponied up the money for him this year. Hope he sees a little something extra at Christmas from ownership, he rolled over for them big time.
The cost of Panarin ( he loves America!) just went up too. I’m guessing he gets 9+M next year if he has any kind of year. If Saad bounces back his 6M looks like a nice deal now. He left money on the table too by signing for more than 2 years. He should have done a bridge with the Hawks and cashed in this year. Can’t imagine why his agent told him to sign for so many years. Hawks would have never lost to STL in the 1st round if both he and Panarin were on the Hawks a couple of years back. Add in Hossa who was still playing, and this would have been possibly cup #4. Bowman proves to be no smarter than his predecessor in letting the agents decide who is on his roster.
July 2, 2018 at 11:06 am #7780oldrafterguyParticipantRocky, wake up and smell the fish!
Some time ago, I think it was the 24th time the Hawks recalled Bob Pulford into so some role, Rocky was the one that finally took the blame for the stench on the ice.
His exact words were…” A fish rots at the head.” Time to wake up to your own advice, Rocky: the fish is rotten and smelling up the city. You need a fish that knows how to survive in hockey rinks, know how to shoot, score. Know what winning is all about.
The problem is that you hired a BRAND fish, not a hockey fish. Your Big Fish signs players with 20 year contracts, no trade clauses, get’s them investment advisors and more endorsements, all of which sell more sweaters, $600 leather jackets, and Chevy’s. Nothing wrong with that, in fact, it’s what pays the bills. Problem is, that if the hockey fish don’t swim, those jackets never leave the beach.
BRANDFISH, the big “presider” as he demands to be called, never played, managed, or coached hockey. After over 25 years of making the Cubs a sports dynasty (HA!), he became the grand presider of all things skating in Chicago. His first move was to fire Dale, get rid of the only man that would challenge his decisions. Young StanBO was his new man, he of genetic wonder (anyone ever hear from Scotty) who has become the patsy for the league when it comes to trading (see: Panarin for Saad -him to resurrect Brand Name 1; Hammer for Murphy to help out aging and slower brands 4 and 5, and don’t even think about the losses over the years of great players due to the best excuse since checks in the mail…salary cap issues. Didn’t Presider approve all those NTC contracts, for long terms, effectively sealing the salary cap problem by allocating over 40% of the entire cap to what, 6 players? Sure, injuries and the Hossa matter are part of the problem, but the same issues every team faces.
Let’s face the fact that as long as Presider Fish is running the team, the Hawks are simply becoming the Cubs of the last 25 years (OK, with the exception of 2016). Lots of promotions, lot’s of apologies, way too much drama, and yes, no playoffs when the ice melts. StanBO will always swim in the direction -a few lengths behind, mind you, of Presider Fish. If you don’t believe me, take a look at how the Hawks improved over the weekend, a 39 year old 4th line, an aging back-up goalie, and young DMan to compliment the current roster of 15 other young, not ready for NHL dmen.
Who else just can’t wait for Hawk Fest? Bet they’ll raffle off a Chevy.
Rocky, if you’re as upset as you said you were a few weeks ago, wrap these fish in yesterday’s’ Trib. There’s great young blood in the organization. Do it today before they leave too, just tired of the view from swimming underneath BRANDFISH.
July 2, 2018 at 3:04 pm #7782fattybeefParticipantSo the talent pool has been further diluted. I wouldn’t say any team won free agency.
I mean at least they didn’t give Ian Cole over four million per.
It’s gonna be interesting season.
Dinglecat bags 35 minimum this season and Keith in Norris discussion are my two predictions. Everything else is up in the air
July 3, 2018 at 5:21 pm #7793Hank_GreenbergParticipantSeems like Patrick Maroon might be worth a look. Not the most dynamic player, but he could fill a spot at LW, as long as the price (and the term) isn’t too steep. Would give them a bit of needed size ….

You mean the hole they filled with the great Chris Kunitz?
July 5, 2018 at 9:52 am #7810Alan ParsonsParticipantKunitz is a guy you add in March if your team is making a Cup run and you need a veteran injury replacement. I dont think Kunitz hurts the Hawks on the ice, but he definitely blocks minutes for a young player. Makes no sense to me at all. If the are gonna suck, why not suck and give the kids valuable minutes? Develop them! Grrrr…..
July 5, 2018 at 9:52 am #7811Alan ParsonsParticipantHe doesnt help them either. Its just a major head scratcher.

Well, Maroon just signed a one-year deal with the Blues for $1.75M. Seems awfully manageable for the Hawks, but what do I know ….
