The Blackhawks just re-acquired another guy they grossly overpaid, had to eventually salary dump, was waived to the AHL, and discarded by 3 other organizations in the last 12 months. The funny part of this whole trade is that the Blackhawks are still owed “Future Considerations” from Vegas for the original Kruger trade.

Count me as a fan of the move.   The rebuild continues, no term taken to the cap and a solid prospect in MacKenzie Entwistle added to a growing pipeline of legitimate prospects and this kid has some size at 6ft 3in.

The win in the trade was what they didn’t give up to move Hossa’s money. Saw it said they moved 15+ mil of Hossa money over 3 yrs for 2.7 mil of Kruger money this yr (he’s on a 1 yr deal). And they did not add term to the cap.

Add the 18 yr old 6ft 3in 2017 3rd rd pick, prospect MacKenzie Entwistle. A legit prospect who has represented Canada in every tournament that matters at his age, the Ivan Hlinka and WJC U-18. Also told he has an invite to Canada’s World Championship camp.

Vinnie is a nice bottom 6 guy and they moved Oesterle dealing from a glut of similar type Dmen. They did lose a 3rd rd pick for a 5th. But they did not give up a Johns or Teravainen to lose dead salary as has been the MO.

With Crawford a question mark and 4-5-6 legit holes/questions the Hawks continue the unsaid rebuild. And if Kruger can go and his healthy he adds a much needed center so they are probably better on the ice today than yesterday, added another very good prospect and cleared cap money without giving up a TT or Johns to do so.

Nicely done, StanBow and Shovel Face.

Well Oz, JJ, Mario and Goldy?   No thoughts on the thing?

I’m fine with it.  They may end up having to bury Kruger in Rockford with the “over the hill” limit on this team already exceeded by Chris Kunitz, but the rest is fine.  Luckily Carolina ate $308,333 to dump him in the desert.  Open up that cap room.

    Now, do something with it.

    I think it’s…..meh.

The upside–it opened up more cap space. Now….the Hawks need to do something with it.

Kruger may be a non issue. He can be buried in Rockford  if he’s not healthy.

Call me a fan as well. They had to get rid of the Hossa money, and giving up Vinnie and a 3rd for a 5th is not a steep price to pay with Krugs and Entwistle in return. I don’t always buy it when Hawks return after Stan’s let them go but Kruger is only 28 and it already sounds like he’s feeling good and motivated being back with the Hawks. We’ll see. Not expecting much.

Interested to see what Stan does with the cap space given how little he has to work with in terms of what he can offer in a trade. Would love them to make an ultra aggressive trade for a high upside young dman but it just doesn’t seem in the cards given what it’d cost.

I like the trade. I read a lot of comments about how it was going to take a first round pick to trade Hossa’s contract. With the moves Stan made this summer, the Hawks’ first round pick is likely to be top 10 again, Vinnie is not worth any more than a very late first, and more likely a 2nd.

Kruger’s upside is a solid 4th line C who can play the shutdown role, like he did before, and win draws.  Kruger’s downside is he provides leadership in RFD.   If he played through a hernia last season, that explains a lot.  He still had good possession numbers on a team that didnt score many goals in CAR.  He isnt worth a 10M 3 year deal, but at least theres just one year left on it. And lets see what the Entwhistle kid looks like.  He is only turning 19 tomorrow.  Put some weight on him and see how he looks in RFD.

And I like Vinnie enough, just dont think he is anything special.  I still dont understand the Kunitz signing.  At least he was cheap.

All Krueger has to do is win some FO’s and bolster the PK and the Hawks win on this deal. They gave away nothing to move Hossa’s contract and get a much needed center in return for 1 year. Now if a top 4 dman can be had for the right price Stan redeems himself. The Hawks are still on the outside looking in for a playoff spot but the season is long and with a few surprises. Pretty sure its Minny and the Hawks duking it out for the last playoff spot
