What the article fails to mention about Wilson was his stick check ability, positioning, gap maintenance, skating, and willingness to engage physically. Bobby Orr, Max Bentley, and Pierre Pilot changed the position from pure defender to offensive player. Wilson followed, but could shut down the opposition’s best players in addition to his point totals. He’d be $8-10M today (When you use your #6 pick correctly, you draft a Doug Wilson instead of Jack Skille)

Pulford and Co. put together some pretty mediocre teams when Wilson was in his prime; on a good team he’d have won a couple of cups and would be in the HOF long before now. LARMER should be next!
