Discussion went like this: Stan: Hey Ron, I’m interested in one of your young defensive prospects, Travis Sanheim. Is he possibly available? Ron: He might be Stan, but we might be willing to make Samual Morin available. Stan: What would it take if we were interested in one of them? Ron: While I have you on the phone I’m wondering if Artem Anisimov is available or possibly Ryan Hartman? Stan: They might be but I’m really interested in Sanheim or what’s his name oh yeah Morin. Ron: Would you consider Filppula and Raffi for Anisimov and Hartman? Stan: Maybe but like I said I’m really interested in either Sanheim or that Morin guy. What would it take to get one of them? Ron: If you’d be willing to retain half of Anisimov’s salary we could probably throw in Morin. Stan: I’ll have to talk to John about that and get back to you Ron, thanks.

They need youth core guys and a Sanheim type MAY reasonably develop into that and he plays D. Love to see them get a possible young core Dman and or centerman.
Dman Haag is a nice rugged player. I always liked C/W Jordal Weal, smallish though and is 25. Always read good thing about 19yr old 2016 1st rd centerman Russian German Rubstov too. Center and 1st rounder Scott Laughton is 23 and would definitely fit as a 3C today.
Philly is loaded at D and has a lot of young centermen………..Goalie Carter Hart?
Apparently the Hawks are hoping to get Kimo Timmonen back in the deal as well.
February 22, 2018 at 8:12 am #5459John JaeckelParticipantThe Hawks have nothing like Sanheim or Morin in their system right now. Fact. I would also love to see them grab one of Dahlin, Boqvist or Bouchard in the draft.

Forsling, Jokiharju, and Mitchell are top 4D prospects and play more of a new NHL style. If you redraft the 2017 draft both would be 1st round picks and HJ goes much earlier. Unless uncle Jerry takes care of the Hawks I have them taking Hughes which would add another blue-chip defensive prospect. So it is not really a fact that they don’t have anything like either in the system.
Morin has been hurt this season and has not been that good in the AHL. Sanheim is more appealing but AA should return a 1st round pick. If it was something built around Hartman then I think it would make more sense.
Thanks for the updates on what you are hearing even if it is scary.

I just checked hockey reference. Hartman has 8 goals this year, not 15

February 22, 2018 at 5:41 pm #5483hawkeytalkParticipantDoes anyone have any good theories for what is up with Hartman? Seems to me like he doesn’t have his role defined in his own head, and his struggles this year are more mental than anything. Curious if anyone is seeing something more or different.

I can’t ever remember seeing Morin play but have Sanheim. Anything you can add on Morin? …….. Think I mentioned to you I went to the WJS Summer Showcase this yr in Plymouth, Michigan. Kind of a final cut down for rosters as FIN, SWE, USA and CAN all played each other. …… Dahlin was dinged but played the 2nd game for SWE. It took one shift for me to decide he’s the top player on earth in his age bracket.
I thought going in Svechnikov was the #1. Watched him as a 16 yr old 6-7 play a power forward role in the USHL. This kid had every tool imaginable with size but is no Dahlin. ………..Guess this is my long winded way of saying unless you have the #1 you ain’t getting Dahlin cuz whoever does ain’t trading the pick.
Svech would be great to get but again he probably goes #2.

February 23, 2018 at 12:01 pm #5516EnzoParticipantI don’t like the trade at all. Fillipula is small and old, Raffl is a 4th liner, and Morin/Sanheim have been unable to make the Philly blue line that has been considered subpar for a few years.

This is a pretty good point but at the same time it’s not a deal breaker for me if I like Sanheim. Being stuck behind Provorov and Ghost doesn’t mean you’re not a solid prospect. Add Haag and and it could very well be the Flyers didn’t want to go with 4 Dman, with Sanheim up, with a total of a few hundred NHL games.
I have little opinion on Sanheim and none on Morin but these are the types the Hawks should be targeting. Young blue chippers, preferably Dmen and or centers.
