    Question for another Rink Cast:

The big question coming into the season was what would they do with Hossa’s cap space?  They needed the space in case they made a move, and so that they COULD make a move, but they havent made any moves.  It isnt a huge amount of space, but should more questions be asked of Stan Bo as to WHY he hasnt used Hossa’s cap space to improve the team?

And if they havent used his space, does that perhaps mean that they have been keeping the possibility alive that Hossa could return at some point if his skin condition/health allows?

Just because they have the space, doesn’t mean there is a move to be made or one available. The second part is that just having cap space doesn’t get you as player. It just gives you room to acquire one. They would have to give up (probably important) assets to get someone that would make a difference on this team, AND it would take more than just one significant player to make this team better. Blowing assets and cap space just to make a move would be highly irresponsible. That would be like my 5 year old having $10 in his pocket and spending it on gumballs and stickers in vending machines, and then having nothing to show for it when he wants to buy an action figure later.

The trade market is tight and competitive at the moment, and there will most likely be many more buyers than sellers. A top 4 defender is out of their price range, unless you want to lose Debrincat, Forsling or Sikura and their first round pick. They have no second and fourth round pick already. It just doesn’t make sense for a team that really isn’t all that good.

Hossa will never return. It has absolutely nothing to do with that. His condition is something that can be more manageable if not playing, but will never go away. If not for the cap recapture, he would have formally retired already.

I know a 5 year old that would be ecstatic
