January 30, 2018 at 6:50 am #4203Mister RicochetParticipantIt should be noted that Hillman is 22 and Mitchell is 19 yrs old. ……… Wiz, any thoughts on Hawks’ 2015 3rd rd pick ND Dman 21 yr old Dennis Gilbert in these games?
January 30, 2018 at 8:02 am #4204Jeff OsbornKeymasterI will say that from what I saw of Mitchell at last summer’s prospect camp, he’s going to be a good one.

Todd, I saw Gilbert play for a full yr with the USHL Chicago Steel 4 yrs ago and got a look at him live this yr at ND when U of Minnesota visited. To be short he was a wild hair of sorts to start with the Steel, tall, thin, +skater, ALWAYS jumped in but learned quickly you’ll get torched playing that way in the USHL. Ended the yr a much more responsible Dman.
Has transitioned to a stay at home shutdown PK Dman at ND, fantastic plus minus stats with offensive back class. Nice size, at least average skater, defensive minded, good in his slot. Maybe a Stephen Johns type, ceiling would be 2nd pairing but more likely a 4th-5th type Dman. http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=267396
Keep in mind I’m no scout but have seen him thru jrs and the NCAA.

It actually depends upon the position but I doubt you wait more than. a season before they turn pro.
It is all about a comfort zone and growth, not some timetable that the team has planned out, but these kids are the real deal in that top ten…
