Prior to the game, the Blackhawks made some roster moves, recalling Nick Lardis and Drew Commesso from Rockford. Commesso was recalled because an illness to Spencer Knight.

Arvid Soderblom started his second game in a row.

First period

In the first period, the Hawks jumped on the Stars early. Artyom Levshunov fired a shot from the back end that was deflected in by Tyler Bertuzzi.

Later in the period, Sam Rinzel put the Hawks 2-0 with his third goal of the year.

Oliver Moore was injured on the Rinzel goal and would not return to the game.

The Stars cut the lead to one with a goal from Nathan Bastian. Chicago led 2-1 after the first.

Second period

The Stars came out shooting in the second. Despite the furious attack, Soderblom stopped all the shots in the second.

The scored remained 2-1 in favor of the Hawks.

Third period

Dallas battled their way to the lead in the third period. Mavrik Bourque tied the game less than a minute into the third period. Later, Justin Hryckowian scored a power-play goal to give Dallas the lead.

Chicago pulled Soderblom for the extra attacker late in the game. With the extra attacker, Connor Bedard found the back of the net for his 26th goal.

Overtime

Miro Heiskanen scored the game-winner 22 seconds in overtime. The Hawks lost 4-3.

Analysis

The Hawks got a sold effort from Soderblom and goals from Bedard, Rinzel and Bedard in the loss. The Hawks continue to lose close games this season. If the Hawks want to take the next step in their development, they must start winning close games.

The Hawks have a quick turnaround as they take on the Utah Mammoth tomorrow at 7 p.m. CDT at the United Center.

The Chicago Blackhawks entered the new year with points in two of their last three games. Their last matchup was a shootout loss to the New York Islanders. Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars were entering tonight’s matchup on a three-game losing streak.

This was the second time the Hawks had seen Dallas in less than a week. Spencer Knight got the start in goal.

First period

The Hawks got the scoring started with a power-play goal from Arytom Levshunov. The young defenseman finally cashed in a scoring chance after so many near misses in the past.

GOAL: Artyom Levshunov finishes off an amazing sequence in the O-zone with a snipe. What a shift. pic.twitter.com/uwHGQ55GAw

The Hawks’ lead was short-lived, as Mikko Rantanen answered less than three minutes later, tying the score at 1-1.

Second period

The Hawks started the second period on power play after delayed penalty on Nils Lundkvist. The Hawks wasted little time cashing in on the power play for a 2-1 advantage.

The Hawks continued to dominate the second period when Ilya Mikheyev donned his superman cape for a 3-1 lead.

The Hawks ended a dominant second period with a two-goal lead.

Third period

Early in the third period, Mikheyev fired a shot on net. The shot squirted through Jake Oettinger’s pads for the goal.

GOAL: Ilya Mikheyev scores his second of the game on a shot that leaks through Oettinger pic.twitter.com/Cd2HNbj4hN

The Stars did not go quietly into the night. Jason Robertson scored with under four minutes to play. With less than 20 second left to play, Matt Duchene potted a goal to cut the lead further, but the Hawks held on for a 4-3 victory.

Analysis

Despite the close final score, the Hawks dominated the majority of this game. The Hawks got great games from Tyler Bertuzzi, Mikheyev, Levshunov and Alex Vlasic. In the closing seconds of the game, Mikheyev missed an empty-netter. That would have been his first NHL hat trick.

The Hawks are finally finding out how to play winning hockey without Connor Bedard.

Another unsugn hero of tonight’s victory was Ryan Greene. While Greene is still not scoring at a great clip, he is finding ways to contribute. Greene won 62.5% of his faceoffs in the victory.

Knight enjoyed another solid effort in the net. He stopped 21 of 24 shots for the victory.

The Hawks now have points in three of their last four games. The Hawks’ next game will Saturday against the Washington Capitals. The game will be at 6 p.m. CST.

The Chicago Blackhawks came into Texas against the Dallas Stars looking to get back to winning. They had dropped their previous six contests, and needed to get something going to turn things around. Losing Connor Bedard in their game against St. Louis was a crushing blow to a team that seemed to be playing at a much better pace than last year’s team. Ilya Mikheyev missed this game to be there for the birth of his third child, with Landon Slaggert swapping in for him. Arvid Soderblom would get the start in net after Spencer Knight did all he could against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday to keep the Blackhawks in the game.

First period

It did not take long for the Blackhawks to get on the board in this one. After a play by Jason Dickinson to dig the puck out in the defensive zone, the puck got up to Alex Vlasic. He skated in toward the Stars’ net and fed Tyler Bertuzzi, who had a gaping cage to put the puck in, 1-0 Blackhawks.

— Chicago Blackhawks (@NHLBlackhawks) December 28, 2025

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Just over seven minutes later, the Stars would get one back. Mikko Rantanen took the puck out from the corner and banked it back to the point. Nils Lundkvist leaned into a slapshot and got it through traffic past Soderblom, knotting it up at 1-1.

Ryan Donato had a nice chance in sneaking through the Dallas defense to put the puck on net, but Jake Oettinger stopped Andre Burakovsky on the rebound to keep the score knotted up 1-1 to end the first.

Second period

It took until halfway through the second for one of the teams to get something going. Jason Dickinson took the puck all the way through the Dallas defense. He wristed it past Oettinger with beautiful placement, putting the Blackhawks up 2-1.

ooooohhhh my goodness pic.twitter.com/qsGxHyVNcy

— Chicago Blackhawks (@NHLBlackhawks) December 28, 2025

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

It did not take long for Dallas to get that goal back again though, just as in the first. Wyatt Johnston put a shot off the post that brought Soderblom too far out of his crease to challenge it. That left Justin Hryckowian wide open to put the puck past a diving Soderblom, 2-2. Once again, the period ended with both teams all tied up.

Third period

This time, the Stars were the ones to strike first in the period. It still took as long as in the second for both teams to beat their opposition’s goaltender. With 10 and a half minutes gone, Jamie Benn got a breakaway attempt. The Blackhawks’ defense completely broke down, but Soderblom kept the puck out, as Benn could not elevate it. Then, just 30 seconds later, Rantanen took care of a rebound at the side of the net, putting the Stars up 3-2. Ryan Greene had a horrendous turnover in the defensive zone that led directly to that goal. That lead would not last long, however.

Once again, Vlasic took a shot from the point that hit a bunch of sticks on the way in. That rebound found its way to Bertuzzi, who potted his second of the game, tying the game up 3-3.

Tyler Bertuzzi leads the NHL in goals on the road with 14 goals this season pic.twitter.com/c00K9rzyxE

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Overtime and shootout

Overtime went by without much in the way of action, with both teams generating two shots apiece, but not beating either goaltender. After the first round, no one put the puck through, and in the second round, Donato got his chance. He slowed down Oettinger, getting him to commit before tucking the puck over his pad on the backhand. As in the rest of the game, Dallas answered immediately. Matt Duchene beat Soderblom on the next shot to knot it up at 1-1. After Burakovsky and Johnston both were stopped, the puck found itself on the stick of Nick Lardis. He beat Oettinger cleanly to give the Blackhawks the win 4-3 in the shootout.

Analysis

The Blackhawks played extremely well in this game. They never let themselves fall too far behind, and fought hard in this game to stay in it. They were a bit too undisciplined as far as penalties go, and the Greene turnover leading to a goal was one of the worst plays you can hope to see. Bertuzzi is huge on the road, as he scored his 13th and 14th goals on the road this season. He was in the right place every time in this game, getting to the front as he is best at. Vlasic also had a great game, knotting two assists, but also looked good in the defensive end as well.

The Blackhawks’ next game is on Sunday night back home in Chicago against the Pittsburgh Penguins. That game will be at 6 p.m. CST on CHSN.

The Chicago Blackhawks kicked off the post-holiday break with a nationally televised home game against the Dallas Stars on Sunday. The Hawks had lost four in a row on the road before the break. Meanwhile, the Stars had not fared much better before the break, as they also dropped their last four in a row.

The stage was set for one team to end their four-game losing streak. Sadly, the Stars were able to capitalize on a costly Hawks penalty to seal the victory.

First period

In the first period, the Hawks jumped out to a one-goal advantage. Connor Bedard snuck one past Jake Oettinger for the game’s first goal. It was his sixth goal in the month of December. The goal ties the most goals he has had in a month during his NHL career.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

The Hawks’ lead was short-lived as Jamie Benn tied it at 1–1.

Second period

After trading penalties to start the period, Tyler Bertuzzi checked and elbowed Colin Blackwell in the face. It was a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct for Bertuzzi. With the man advantage for five minutes, the Stars capitalized. Jason Robertson scored his eighth goal of the season. As the penalty expired, Evgenii Dadonov scored his 10th goal of the season.

Period two ended with the Hawks down 3–1.

Third period

The Hawks gave up another goal less than 15 seconds into the third period. Wyatt Johnson potted his eighth of the season. Matt Duchene would chip another goal for the Stars.

The final score was Stars 5–1 over the Hawks.

Analysis

The Hawks played a terrible hockey game and got embarrassed on national television. Aside from the Bedard goal, there were not many positives from the game. If the Hawks come out and play this poorly against the Blues on Tuesday, it will be another failure on the national stage.

The Hawks’ next game is Tuesday against the St. Louis Blues in the Winter Classic. The game will be show on TNT and Max with a 4 p.m. CST puck drop.

The Chicago Blackhawks looked to rebound on Wednesday night against the Dallas Stars after their 3–2 overtime loss against the Flyers on Saturday. They looked good most of the game, but lost momentum toward the end against the Flyers, and ended up giving away what should have been a victory. The lineup changes for Wednesday were minimal, with Philipp Kurashev coming in for Joey Anderson and Wyatt Kaiser coming in for Nolan Allan on defense.

Philipp Kurashev and Wyatt Kaiser are back in. Joey Anderson and Nolan Allan will sit. #Blackhawks

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

First period

The Blackhawks got this one started right off the jump. Taylor Hall skated into the offensive zone with the puck and 17 seconds in, put the Blackhawks up 1–0 on a nice wrist shot.

Just under five and a half minutes later, Hall would strike again. Ryan Donato stopped the puck up the boards on a clearing attempt by Casey DeSmith. He got a pass out in front to Hall, who tucked it around the pad, 2–0 Blackhawks.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

The hat trick watch would continue into the second, though, as the first period ended up 2–0 Blackhawks.

Second period

Having ended the first on the power play, the Blackhawks got started on the man advantage in the second. Very quickly, that advantage would be over. Tyler Bertuzzi held the puck in at the point and got the puck over to Connor Bedard, who wristed the puck over DeSmith’s shoulder, 3–0 Blackhawks, ending a lengthy drought for Bedard.

Then, just under three minutes later, the Blackhawks would strike again. Teuvo Teravainen took a pass just outside the circles and wristed a shot to the back of the net, 4–0 Chicago.

However, 35 seconds later, the Stars got one back. Former Blackhawk forward Colin Blackwell chipped in the puck from in front of the net, 4–1 Blackhawks.

The second period just kept on giving goals. Hall got his fifth hat trick of his career, with a wrister from the left circle just after a power play expired.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Then, recent call-up Louis Crevier got in on the action with his first in his NHL career, putting the Blackhawks up by five off a beautiful setup from Ilya Mikheyev.

The second period would end with Chicago leading by a massive 6–1 margin.

Third period

The third period was rather uneventful, as the main action was two penalties against the Blackhawks. They were able to kill off the first, but not the second, as Matt Duchene potted a power play goal for the visitors. The game would end with a 6–2 Blackhawks victory.

Analysis

This was a dominant effort by the Blackhawks. The offense was firing on all cylinders, Petr Mrazek made the stops that he was asked to and some he was not and the amount of blocked shots was higher than one would expect based on the scoresheet. Hall got his first hat trick as a Blackhawk, and Bedard got off his goalless drought as well. All lines had something going in this one, which is always impressive when unexpected players are chipping in to make things happen. All around, a great game, and maybe the Blackhawks’ best this season.

The Blackhawks next play against the Minnesota Wild on Friday afternoon in Minnesota. That game will be on CHSN at 1 p.m. CST.

When the Chicago Blackhawks added a bunch of veterans to their roster, the hope was that the team would be improved from last season. While we have seen improvements at times, last night against the Dallas Stars was an indication of just how far the Blackhawks still have to go as an organization.

In the first two periods of last night’s game, the Hawks were putrid. The team could not do anything right aside from Arvid Soderblom, who turned in another solid performance in the loss.

First period

Dallas was all over the Hawks. The Hawks could not clear their own zone for the majority of the period. Sam Steel of the Stars scored the game first goal. In the period, the Hawks were outshot 33–11. The shots that went on goals were 16–5 in favor of Dallas and the scoring chances were 13–3 Stars.

It was one of the worst periods of hockey this season.

Second period

The second period was not much better for the Hawks. The Hawks went down 2–0 on a delayed penalty. As Ben Pope of the Chicago SunTimes described it, it is like the Hawks cannot even see the puck out there.

The Hawks decided to play remarkably worse in the second period and some described the period as hideous. The Hawks were lucky to only be down 2–0.

Third period

In the third, Chicago remembered how to play respectable NHL hockey for a period. The Hawks got on the board with a goal from Tyler Bertuzzi.

What a pass by Ryan Donato, who gives it over to Connor Bedard, who connects with Tyler Bertuzzi on the power play for his third goal in five games. #Blackhawks pic.twitter.com/Sbl9PV82DD

— Charlie Roumeliotis (@CRoumeliotis) November 8, 2024

The Stars got an empty-netter from Logan Stankoven. The final score was 3–1 Dallas.

Analysis

Despite the final score looking close, this game was never close. The Hawks were outplayed for two periods of hockey. The two bright spots for the the Hawks in this contest were Soderblom and Bertuzzi. Soderblom played an exceptional game to keep the score respectable. He made 37 of 39 saves and continues to build confidence this season. His time in the NHL should give him confidence once he returns to the AHL later this season.

Bertuzzi scored his fifth goal of the season and must get going offensively for the Hawks to be more competitive in games.

CHSN update

There might be a deal on the horizon for Comcast/Xifinity subscribers as it was announced yesterday that people with the regional sports package will be credited back $8.85 per month. Jeff Agrest of the Chicago SunTimes is speculating that because the price has not been changed permanently, a deal could be in the works. The question then would be, does anyone want to watch this team or the others on CHSN? That is for another time.

The Blackhawks’ next game is Sunday against the Minnesota Wild. For those who can watch it, it will be on CHSN at 6:10 p.m. CST.

The Chicago Blackhawks traveled to Texas on Saturday to take on the Dallas Stars. While the Blackhawks were looking to snap a three-game losing streak, the Stars were looking to build upon their 6–2 victory over the Boston Bruins earlier this week.

Before the game, the Blackhawks announced a lineup a change. The much-maligned winger Lukas Reichel was moved up from the fourth line to the top line. Reichel had been playing better after starting the season as a healthy scratch.

Here was the lineup.

Blackhawks lines in warmups vs. Stars feature Reichel on the first line:

First period

In the first period, the Hawks were able to kill off two penalties and failed to score on one power play of their own. After all the special teams play, Evgenii Dadonov scored an even-strength goal to put Dallas up 1–0. The period ended with Dallas up 1–0 and Chicago was very lucky they only trailed by one after the period.

1st intermission: Stars 1, Blackhawks 0

Pope followed up his tweet with more context. The Hawks only had 20 scoring chances the entire game against San Jose in their victory last week.

Second period

In the second period, the Stars added to their lead as Jamie Benn potted his second goal of the season. Benn knocked the puck out of midair for the second goal of the game. The second ended with Chicago trailing Dallas 2–0.

Third period

Dallas extended its lead to 3–0 when Matt Duchene tallied on the power play.

The Blackhawks mounted a comeback led by their fourth line. Ryan Donato got the Hawks on the board with his third goal of the season.

Later in the third period, Connor Bedard, who had been struggling to find the back of the net to start the season, scored his third goal of the campaign to cut the lead to one at 3–2.

The comeback did fall short as Duchene put home an empty-netter to cement the victory for the Stars. The final score was 4–2.

Analysis

The story this season has been the Hawks’ inability to play a full 60-minute game. In this game, the Hawks failed to get out of the dressing room until the second period.

With the effort not being there for a whole game, the Hawks’ management might have to start to look at a changing of the coaching staff. The Luke Richardson staff had in the past been able to get better efforts out of teams with less talent. Thus far with more “talent,” the Hawks have yet to play a complete game.

On the positive side of things, Bedard got his second in the last two games. After not scoring goals for four games, the hope is that goals will come in bunches for Bedard, who had struggled scoring prior to this weekend. Bedard also got a new linemate in this contest. Reichel was moved up from the fourth line to the top line and given time on the power play. This is a testament to Reichel, who has improved his defensive game and now is starting to flash some of his offensive talent. Hopefully the young forward can continue to build on this positive momentum and turn into the player a large portion of the fan base already believes he is.

CHSN update

As the CHSN saga continues, there is still no movement on a deal with Comcast/Xfinity. As Chicago SunTimes Sports Editor Jeff Agrest wrote earlier this week, Comcast is not budging on their desire to have CHSN moved to the Ultimate tier of their cable packages. This move would cost Blackhawks fans $20 dollars or more per month to watch games.

For those who have FuboTV, CHSN has struck a deal with them and their station will be included in the regional sports package. Fans would need to pay $79.99 plus an additional $14.99 per month to watch the Blackhawks.

Prospect update

The Blackhawks’ second overall pick in the 2024 Draft, Artyom Levshunov, made his pro debut with the Rockford IceHogs on Saturday. Levshunov had been injured before the start of training camp and was working his way back ever since.

He had an assist on Cavan Fitzgerald’s first goal in the 5–3 IceHogs victory.

The Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks have been playing polar opposite seasons this year. While the Stars have championship ambitions, the Blackhawks do as well…three to five seasons from now. The rebuild continues in the Windy City, but signs of life are everywhere if you look. Dallas came into the afternoon matinee having taken down the Oilers in convincing fashion, and riding on an eight-game winning streak. The Blackhawks have been ping-ponging between the win and loss columns as of late, but are playing some of their most cohesive and competitive hockey we have seen of this team.

The only lineup change made by the Blackhawks from their loss to the Islanders was Colin Blackwell switching in for Taylor Raddysh, with Petr Mrazek once again getting the start in net.

First Period:

The first twenty minutes involved a lot of back and forth from both teams. The first few minutes were especially hectic with both sides getting chances one after the other. Every time he was tested, Mrazek stood on his head and kept the puck out, though he did have his defense helping him for once. Mason Marchment got the best chance for Dallas in the period, putting a shot in tight off of the far post past Mrazek. The period would end as it started, in a zero-zero tie.

Second Period:

The second started off as hectic as the first, with the Stars getting in a bunch of shots on net in the first three minutes. Their best chance in that sequence came on a Roope Hintz wrister from the right circle. Mrazek came out to challenge and made a beautiful glove save. The Blackhawks got their first powerplay opportunity of the game on a Matt Duchene slash of Connor Bedard. Bedard then went to work. He got the puck along the wall, skated in towards the net, and fired a wrister that beat Scott Wedgewood far post, 1–0 Blackhawks.

CONNOR BEDARD. pic.twitter.com/uyRz439rFO

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Just over a minute later, Andreas Athanasiou got in on the action with his first of the year. Lukas Reichel was skating through the middle of the offensive zone and drew a penalty, but got the puck back to Athanasiou. He wristed it right into the back of the net, 2–0 Blackhawks.

Three minutes later, Seth Jones was the recipient of a beautiful pass from Ryan Donato. He wristed a shot past Wedgewood, making it 3–0 Blackhawks. The Stars woke up before the end of the period, however. After a Tyler Johnson attempt at one end of the ice, the Stars took the puck quickly the other way. Miro Heiskanen made a beautiful pass tape to tape to Hintz who tipped the puck in past Mrazek, putting Dallas on the board. The period ended with the Blackhawks leading 3–1 despite a heavy shot advantage for Dallas.

Third Period:

Just under nine minutes into the frame, the Dallas Stars looked as though they were clawing their way back in. Mavrik Bourque took the puck into the net and ran over Mrazek, so the goal that followed ended up being disallowed. Heiskanen was around the Stars’ second goal as well. He got a backhander on net that was tipped in by Jamie Benn in front, getting the Dallas Stars to within one goal. Mrazek stood on his head for the rest of the game, though, stopping the ensuing Dallas chances, and leading the Blackhawks to a 3–2 victory.

Analysis:

The Blackhawks had no business winning this game. They were getting outshot by massive margins every period, with the Stars clearly outclassing them in skill as well as desire to win. They did tighten down defensively, allowing high shot totals, yes, but also playing good defense as a team. Chicago had more hits, takeaways, and blocked shots than Dallas, even as they were outshot 44-17 for the game. MacKenzie Entwistle stood out this game, as he was all over the place, and trying to do everything he could in all areas of the game. Athanasiou deserved his first, and Seth Jones played one of his best games of the season too, playing some great defense, and getting on the board himself.

As the temperature plummeted in the Windy City, so has the Chicago Blackhawks’ spirits. Without Connor Bedard, the Hawks barely muster enough scoring chances to warrant an offensive threat. Saturday’s game at the United Center was no different.

The Hawks’ lineup did a get boost with the return of Seth Jones. Jones last played against the Washington Capitals on Dec. 10. Petr Mrazek got the start again in net.

First period

In the first period, Jones was involved in three penalties, tripping Jason Robertson and getting tripped and roughed by Mason Marchment in the period. On the Blackhawks’ penalty kill, Alex Vlasic was able to create his own 1-on-1 with Scott Wedgewood. Wedgwood was able to turn away Vlasic’s attempt. In recent games, Vlasic has seized open ice when he has the puck on this stick that have led to offensive zone chances.

Mrazek turned away the eight shot attempts he faced in the first period to keep the game scoreless.

Second period

In the second period, Wedgewood would leave the game with an injury and be replaced by Jake Oettinger. Oettinger had surrendered six goals in his last start at Nashville on Friday. The Blackhawks were able to capitalize on the Oettinger’s struggles.

Boris Katchouk got the first goal of the game. Newly acquired Zach Sanford took a puck hard to the net that was saved by Oettinger, but Katchouk was the trailer and was able to pick up the lose change in front of the net.

Boris Katchouk cleans up Zach Sanford’s breakaway and scores his fourth goal of the season. #Blackhawks pic.twitter.com/ZQqbRAF1pO

The Hawks ended the second period with a 1–0 lead.

Third period

In the third period, Dallas stormed ahead of the Blackhawks. Matt Duchene scored his 14th goal on the power play. Mason Marchment scored 12 minutes later to seal the game for the Stars on a 2-on-1 chance. The ageless Joe Pavelski scored an empty-netter to end the Blackhawks’ hope, as the Stars defeated the Blackhawks 3–1.

Analysis

With the losing continuing to build, Luke Richardson had to give his team a post-game speech trying to lift their spirits.

Richardson said he went into the locker room after tonight’s game — something he rarely does — to reassure the team.

“Guys are pretty down… I just wanted to let them know we’re with them and we believe in them and they have to have belief with the way we’re playing.”

— Ben Pope (@BenPopeCST) January 14, 2024

Despite the effort this team has showed as of late, there has not been any wins to show for it. With some guys experiencing two awful seasons, Richardson needs to continue to preach patience with their style of play.

The Blackhawks’ leader, Nick Foligno, joined the Blackhawks radio booth in the second period, providing something different for fans watching the broadcast.

The Blackhawks’ next game is Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks in a battle of the bottom feeders. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. CST.

It was a Texas-sized New Year’s Eve for the Chicago Blackhawks to end 2023. They went into Dallas and played a very rare back-to-back in the same city to wrap up an eventful but painful year. It looks like the visitors started the party early, as well. The Dallas Stars took a 3—0 lead in the first period to easily cruised by Chicago, 8—1. Dallas toyed with the young Blackhawks most of the game, the way Bantams eventually take it easy on Squirts. The Blackhawks were outshot 17—6 in the first, 10—9 in the second, and 14—9 in the third period for a whopping 41—24 thumping.

★ Most of the Stars’ goals were just pure speed and skill over youth and inexperience. Veteran Blackhawks forward Nick Foligno had some choice words for the team following the loss, though:

★ Mason Marchment (three goals, assist) was the hero in this game, for Dallas. Roope Hintz, who was coming off a hat-trick two nights previous, had a goal, and Tyler Seguin had three points (goal, two assists).

Jarred Tinordi continued to struggle with a minus-3. Despite scoring the lone Blackhawks goal, Philipp Kurashev was the low-water mark for forwards, with a minus-4.

I pointed this out on Twitter, but there are some things worth building on:

Defenseman Alex Vlasic continues to be a low-key bright spot. He has played smart and simple. He does not rush plays and has a massive wingspan. After Connor Bedard, he is the Blackhawks rookie (yes, he is basically still a rookie) I have been most impressed with.
Kurashev did not look great on the box score, but if you told me this unassuming Swiss player with a Russian name, picked in the fourth round, would be the Blackhawks’ biggest breakout player in that draft, I might have suggested you be committed for hallucinations. Yet, here we are. He had been more impactful than Adam Boqvist, Nicolas Beaudin, Jake Wise, and Niklas Nordgren before him.

This is a very timely and relevant reference, but the Shirelles once sang, “Mama said there will be days like this. There will be days like this, my mama said.” These are the growing pains of rebuilding with a young team and over-the-hill vets. Some day, we will all look back on these games and laugh, but they are degrading and disappointing in the moment.

The Blackhawks came into Friday night’s action, finally ending their losing streak. After defeating Winnipeg 2–1 on Wednesday, they came into Dallas to try to gain four points before the new year arrives. Nikita Zaitsev was supposed to play but wound up being a late scratch, so this was the lineup that the Blackhawks iced:

First Period:

The injury bug struck early for the Blackhawks in this game. Taylor Raddysh played two shifts early in the first and was unable to come back for the rest of the game. That meant the Blackhawks were only icing eleven forwards for the remainder of this contest. Despite that, they were the ones able to grab the first goal of the game. After an Anthony Beauvillier shot on goal, Tyler Johnson cleaned up the rebound to put the Blackhawks up 1–0 eight minutes into the frame.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js
Three minutes later, Lukas Reichel got the puck behind the Stars’ net. He fed it in front to Cole Guttman, who buried his third of the season, making it 2–0 Blackhawks early in this one. It would only take a minute or so for Dallas to get right back into the game. On a powerplay rush into the Blackhawks’ zone, the puck went from Jamie Benn to Joel Pavelski to Roope Hintz, who had a wide-open net to put the puck into and make the score 2–1 Blackhawks to end the frame.

Second Period:

It took the same amount of time into the second period for either team to get another goal. This time, Dallas would tie things up. Nils Lunkqvist put the puck right on net and got a tip in front from Pavelski, knotting things up at 2–2. It took all of twenty seconds for the Stars to get another one. Eerily similar to his first of the game, Roope Hintz had another wide-open Blackhawks’ net to tap this one home, putting the Stars up 3–2. The Blackhawks’ forwards were beaten badly on this play, giving the Stars the three-on-two to get the wide-open net.

Third Period:

Two minutes and ten seconds into the third, Reichel had an absolutely brutal giveaway along the boards. Wyatt Johnston skated in and put the puck off of Petr Mrazek’s pads. The puck bounced right out to Jamie Benn, who put the Stars up 4–2 early in the third. The Blackhawks didn’t just play dead though, as they would show they still had life. Just after their powerplay expired, Jason Dickinson got the puck out in the slot and ripped a slapshot past Scott Wedgewood, getting the Blackhawks back to within one, 4–3 Dallas. The Blackhawks went on the powerplay again late in the period. With 2:26 left on the clock, and the Blackhawks on the powerplay, Johnson put in another rebound goal to knot things up at four, and send this game to overtime.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Overtime:

The Stars poured it on in overtime with a furious barrage of shots on Mrazek. The Blackhawks looked absolutely gassed but were surviving. In the last ten of overtime, Hintz got the puck on his stick once again, and put home his hattrick goal, giving the Stars the 5–4 win.

Analysis:

The Blackhawks did not look like they were on even terms with the Stars. The Stars looked like they were skating circles around them, especially Jarred Tinordi. He had an absolutely brutal game, getting beat so many times by players who are much smaller than him, but faster. Mrazek looked out of position too, as he bit hard on several of the Stars’ goals, giving them tap-ins when the initial man passed instead of taking a shot. Despite the ugliness of this game, it’s good to see this team fight back from being down by two goals. That at least shows some resilience, as even if they are getting beat, they aren’t backing down from playing out the rest of the game and fighting back.

The Blackhawks are playing again in Dallas on Sunday. That game will be at 7:00 central on NBC Sports Chicago.

The Chicago Blackhawks welcomed back an old friend on Tuesday night when Max Domi and the Dallas Stars visited United Center for a Central Division clash. The Hawks entered the game on a five-game losing skid, while the Stars looked to rebound from a 3–1 loss Saturday night at home against the Vancouver Canucks in their push to win the Central Division crown. The Hawks started Alex Stalock in net against the Stars’ Jake Oettinger.

— The Stars struck first when they entered the Hawks zone on a 3-on-2 rush. Jani Hakanpaa carried the puck in on the left wing side and fed Tyler Seguin for a one-timer for his 18th of the season to give Dallas a 1–0 lead at 5:45 of the opening frame.

— With Dallas on the power play, Colin Miller made it 2–0 when he snapped a wrist shot from the right circle for his fourth of the season at the 18:59 mark of the first. The Stars took the two-goal lead into the first intermission against a sluggish Hawks team.

— In the second, Dallas extended its lead to 3–0 at 11:24 when Joe Pavelski tipped in a Joel Hanley point shot. For Pavelski, the goal was his 22nd of the season. The Hawks trailed by three at the second intermission.

— With the Blackhawks on a third period power play, the Stars broke out shorthanded and Luke Glendening tapped in a Ty Dellandrea cross-ice feed for the tally. The goal was Glendening’s third of the season at the 7:04 mark to give Dallas a commanding 4–0 lead.

— The Hawks ended Oettinger’s shutout at 10:33 of the third when Tyler Johnson buried his ninth of the season from the doorstep on a feed from Jason Dickinson. The play saw rookie defenseman Wyatt Kaiser pinching in to keep the opportunity alive, and his shot was deflected to Dickinson, which set up the goalmouth feed to Johnson. For Kaiser, the assist on the goal was his first NHL point and the Stars’ lead was cut to 4–1 and it would stay that way when the final horn sounded.

The Blackhawks will return to action on Thursday night when they host the St. Louis Blues. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. CDT.

With the NHL trade deadline looming, the Chicago Blackhawks briefly paused their roster shuffling on Thursday night when they hosted the Central Division-leading Dallas Stars at the United Center. The Hawks played the game without their leading scorer, Max Domi, as a pending deal to send him to Dallas was reportedly being finalized, and was eventually completed following the game, with Chicago sending Domi and minor-league goaltender Dylan Wells to Dallas for a 2025 second-round pick and veteran netminder Anton Khudobin. The Hawks started Petr Mrazek in net against University of Massachusetts alum Matthew Murray, who was making his NHL debut.

— The Stars struck first on the power play to take a 1–0 lead when Joe Pavelski found Roope Hintz on a 2-on-1 down low and he fired the puck into a wide-open net with Mrazek out of position. For Hintz, it was his 27th of the season at 10:21 of the first.

— The Hawks tied it at 1–1 at the 15:54 mark when Cole Guttman tapped in a rebound for his third of the season off a Tyler Johnson shot off the rush.

— At 17:05 of the first, Dallas regained the lead at 2–1 when Hintz scored his second of the game and 28th of the season on a one-timer from the left circle on the power play. Dallas took the lead into the first intermission.

— The Hawks came out for the second period and tied it just 26 seconds in when Seth Jones floated a wrist shot through a screened Murray for his seventh of the season. The teams would remain in a 2–2 tie after two periods.

— The Stars returned the favor with an early third-period goal to take a 3–2 lead. One of the Stars’ newest acquisitions, Evgenii Dadonov, won a board battle behind the net and then found Jamie Benn in front, who knocked in his 25th of the season at the 45-second mark.

— With the Hawks’ net empty, the Stars won a defensive zone draw and Esa Lindell launched a 200-foot shot into the open cage to take a 4–2 lead. For Lindell, it was his seventh of the season.

— With 13.7 seconds left, Hintz completed the hat trick with an empty-net tally for his 29th of the season to give the Stars a 5–2 lead, which stood as the final.

— Once again, the Hawks played hard throughout the contest but just ran out of gas in the third, largely due to the talent disparity. For the Stars, Murray picked up his first NHL victory.

The Blackhawks return to home ice on Saturday night when they face the Nashville Predators. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. CST.

The Chicago Blackhawks skated into Texas on Wednesday to take on the Dallas Stars after a roller coaster of a game on Tuesday that saw Patrick Kane win the game only to have the goal disallowed by the officials in Toronto. The Blackhawks won in a shootout 3–2 in overtime over the Vegas Golden Knights securing the teams third straight victory. Wednesday’s 4–3 victory over the Stars gives Chicago four straight victories as we approach the trade deadline.

General Manager Kyle Davidson also acquired veteran Nikita Zaitsev, a 2023 second-round pick and a 2026 fourth-rounder from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for future considerations prior to puck drop. Zaitsev had Chicago on his limited no-trade list of approved teams and Davidson took the advantage to snag another early draft pick. Chicago now has 13 picks in the first three rounds of the upcoming two drafts.

This team does not quit under Luke Richardson. Richardson has done an excellent job getting his team prepared and playing the style of hockey he wishes. The record does not reflect the job he is doing because of the lack of overall NHL talent on this team, but the Blackhawks showed no quit again tonight after falling behind the pesky Stars 3–0 and firing back with four straight goals.

Kane and Max Domi both found the back of the net twice tonight. Domi’s goals gave him 17 on the season and Kane’s pair gives him 16, in what has been an excruciating season for Kane. The on-going storyline of whether the future Hall of Fame winger will wave his no-trade clause has become nauseating. With that being said, Domi and Kane are definitely two players Davidson could get a nice return for at the deadline.

Speaking of Kane, whatever ailment he was working through before the all-star break clearly is in the rearview mirror. Kane can still take over games and an interested Kane is a great Kane. If a team needs a playmaker, he can still drive an offense. At most trade deadlines, playoff teams are looking for scoring depth and/or depth on the blue line; Kane gives a team a top-line threat when playing alongside talent. Do not be fooled by some that show you chart graphics; you are looking at a bored, banged up Kane. Also, a Kane in April, May and June is a different type of Kane. I would not bet against him.

Dallas entered Wednesday’s contest first in the Central Division and one point behind the Vegas Golden Knights for top points in the Western Conference. You read that correctly fans. Vegas and Dallas are the top two teams in the conference and Chicago beat both on back-to-back nights. With that being said, the Stanley Cup should go through the Eastern Conference this season, as one could make an argument that six or seven teams in the East would outplay Dallas and Vegas in a seven-game series.

Goaltender Jaxson Stauber gave a solid effort behind a team that played a game that went into overtime last night and finished in a shootout and found themselves getting in to Dallas at 3:30 a.m. last night. With Wednesday’s victory, Stauber now has five wins in six starts and continues to battle each night and is a joy to watch in net as a 23-year-old netminder finding his way in the NHL. Talent will always be the most important part in the crease in the NHL—you cannot fake that—but Stauber brings a calm and fight that you do not see much with such a young goaltender.

Chicago found some karma for Tuesday night’s Kane disallowed goal in overtime. Dallas appeared to squeak a puck behind Stauber late in the third, but after another long review, there was “insufficient evidence” that the puck crossed the line. The one replay angle showed the puck on edge and the puck could have reasonably trickled over the line, but Stauber’s sweater blocked the view. Not to be outdone, the Hawks avoided disaster again at the horn, as Tyler Seguin appeared to score for Dallas before the goal was waved off for coming after time expired.

Chicago heads out west for a road trip starting with a contest against the inept San Jose Sharks on Saturday with puck drop scheduled for 9 p.m. CST.

The Chicago Blackhawks cannot seem to get off of the losing streak they are currently on for anything, and their latest effort unfortunately turned up the same sort of result as the past few games, just with a lot more heartbreak. Here are your post-game one-timers:

If you checked in after the first or second periods, you would have thought that the Blackhawks had everything together. They looked cohesive, and were only down 1–0 after one, and were actually ahead 3–1 after the second period.

They went up 4–1 halfway through the third, and then eveything unraveled. The Stars started putting on a massive onslaught, which turned the game on its head.

The Blackhawks let up after scoring that goal, it would seem, as they somehow seemed to think that the Stars would just stop trying after going down by three.

As per usual, the Blackhawks struggled greatly with defense, allowing five unanswered goals in the third, as they were out-hit by a massive margin, and Petr Mrazek could only do so much to stop Dallas by himself.

We all expected Max Domi and Andreas Athanasiou to be a significant drain on forward defense, but Philipp Kurashev has been downright brutal, and registering nothing on the score sheet entirely, registering a -2 in this loss, and a -14 on the season.

Seth Jones got back into the lineup, and scored his first goal of the season, after Jason Robertson of the Stars got Dallas on the board in the first.

Athanasiou, Connor Murphy and Domi would all follow Jones in scoring for the Blackhawks.

After that, the Stars scored five goals a little over nine minutes in the third. Jamie Benn, Mason Marchment, Ty Dellandrea, Radek Faksa and Robertson again would give the Stars the victory.

So much needs to be fixed with this youthful group the Blackhawks have. We can only hope that losses like this will go a long way toward getting good prospects in next year’s draft.

The Blackhawks are back in action on Friday against the Montreal Canadiens. Coverage starts at 1 p.m. CST on NBC Sports Chicago.

Entering Sunday’s game, the Chicago Blackhawks were coming off a lackluster effort against the Seattle Kraken. After the Kraken game, interim head coach Derek King made some lineup changes. Tyler Johnson and Caleb Jones were scratched in favor of Philipp Kurashev and Alex Vlasic against the Dallas Stars. King also reunited former Erie Otters linemates Alex DeBrincat, Taylor Raddysh and Dylan Strome.

Meanwhile, their opponents played their worst game of the season per their head coach, Rick Bowness, in their last matchup. With the Stars fighting for a playoff spot, they can ill afford to drop games to non-playoff teams at this stage of the season. With 10 games remaining, the Blackhawks were hoping to play the role of spoiler against the Stars on Sunday.

First period

The game was called by the retiring Pat Foley and his old broadcast partner, Dale Tallon. Tallon’s insight as the former general manager of the Florida Panthers came in handy early. Former Florida Panther and current Blackhawks defenseman Riley Stillman attempted to hip check Alexander Radulov. But, the hip check attempt failed and resulted in a penalty on the Blackhawks. On the power play, Jamie Benn was able to tip home a deflection for the game’s first goal and a 1–0 Dallas lead.

Later in the period, Kurshaev and Jonathan Toews were on a 2-on-1 break. Kurashev sent a pass intended for Toews, but it was deflected in the Dallas net for the Blackhawks’ first goal, leveling the score at 1–1.

Less than three minutes later on a Blackhawks power play, Toews took a shot from the high left side. Just like Chicago’s first goal, Dallas defender Esa Lindell tipped in the Toews shot for the 2–1 game-leading goal for the Hawks.

The Stars answered with a power play goal of their own when Tyler Seguin fired a shot from the high right side that Joe Pavelski was able to tip past Kevin Lankinen for the 2–2 equalizer.

The first period ended with both teams tied at 2–2.

Second period

The second period is when Dallas took control of the game. Early in the period, Dach could not clear the Blackhawks’ defensive zone. The weak Dach pass was scooped up by Palveski, who found Roope Hintz for the Stars’ third goal of the game and a 3–2 Dallas advantage.

Just past the midway point in the period, the Blackhawks’ fourth line of MacKenzie Entwistle, Reese Johnson and Boris Katchouk used their physicality to generate a scoring chance. Johnson found Katchouk, who fired a slap shot past a screened Jake Oettinger. It was Katchouk’s first goal as a member of the Blackhawks and knotted the score at 3–3. Katchouk got the proverbial monkey off his back with that goal.

The tie would not last very long, as the Stars answered with another goal. Jason Robertson fired a shot off the back of Lankinen for the Stars’ fourth goal of the game and a 4–3 lead.

Robertson was not done scoring in the second period. Hintz recovered a puck along the boards and fired a pass to Robertson near the right circle. Robertson whizzed the puck by Lankinen for a 5–3 Dallas advantage. Hintz was able to recover the puck because Seth Jones did not check him off near the boards.

The period ended with the Blackhawks trailing by two goals at 5–3.

Third period

In the third period, Collin Delia replaced Lankinen in net. Delia was tested early and answered the bell with some great saves. With the score unchanged, the Stars added their sixth goal of the game with less than five minutes remaining in the game. After making two brilliant saves, Delia was beat on wraparound chance from Seguin for his 22nd goal of the season and a 6–3 Dallas lead.

Dach answered the Seguin goal with a beautiful snipe to cut the lead to 6–4, however, that was the final Blackhawks goal of the game, as the Hawks fell to Dallas 6–4.

Analysis

The Blackhawks have lost seven in a row. It is their 12th time this season the the team has allowed six goals in a game and third time in the last month. This team is just flat out bad, and it shows. The burden of rebuilding this team now falls completely on the shoulders of General Manager Kyle Davidson. He has to start finding and developing talent for this team and its future. He also needs to find players who are willing to do the dirty work and win board battles, which this team sorely lacks.

What could have been

Jake Oettinger got his 26th win of the season. Oettinger was taken with the 26th overall pick in 2017 NHL Entry Draft. The 26th pick originally belonged to the Blackhawks, who traded their pick to Dallas for the 29th pick of the first round and a third-round pick. While Dallas appears to the have their goalie of the future, the Blackhawks turned their 29th pick into Henri Jokiharju/Alexander Nylander, and ultimately, into Sam Lafferty. While hindsight is always clear, it is just another move in a litany of poor decisions that has led the Blackhawks to their current situation.

The Hawks’ next game is Tuesday against the Los Angeles Kings. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CDT.

The final at the United Center Friday night did not trigger a red light in the first 65 minutes of action. The Dallas Stars won 1–0 in the shootout after eight grueling rounds.

Who enjoyed this game? Former defensemen and goaltenders. But, if you placed a wager on the over in his one, you were likely finding another game to play before the night’s end.

The Chicago Blackhawks’ Twitter timeline last night was all about the amazing play of Marc-Andre Fleury. When he is in the net, the Blackhawks have a chance to win. While his days are likely numbered in Chicago with the trade deadline approaching, fans should enjoy the time left. He is one heck of a hockey player, but watching him every night is truly a joy of the sport.

If you are a numbers person, the Blackhawks should have won this one. However, great goaltending prevailed. Stars goalie Jake Oettinger is the future in Dallas, and his 1.75 goals against average on the road was problematic for the Blackhawks heading into Friday night’s tilt.

The biggest positive I take away for the Blackhawks Friday night was their defense. I am a fan of their back end. While there are still Seth Jones haters out there, I am not one of them. Connor Murphy, Calvin de Haan and Jake McCabe are players you can win with. But, in the Blackhawks’ case, poor roster construction has led to wasting the tail end of both Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews’ contracts in Chicago.

Referring back to the trade deadline, the Blackhawks could look very different in a month. There are several players—along with Fleury—that playoff teams may see as a final piece to go chase the Cup. De Haan, Ryan Carpenter and Brandon Hagel are just a few that could be on teams’ radars.

The Blackhawks will host the Flordia Panthers for a Sunday mattinee at the United Center. Tickets are currently as low as $16, so it is a good chance for anyone to head down to Madison Street and catch a hockey game at that price, especially against such a quality opponent in the Panthers. Puck drop is scheduled for 2 p.m. CST.

Things are going pretty well for the Chicago Blackhawks of late, as they are playing much better hockey under Derek King than they had been playing earlier in the season. They dropped a tough game at home on Friday night, losing 3–2 to the Nashville Predators in overtime, and were looking to get back into the win column and get some momentum going against the Dallas Stars on Saturday. Some small lineup changes were in order, with Brett Connolly switching in, along with Kevin Lankinen stepping in between the pipes.

First period

After a few minutes of back and forth, Connolly delivered a huge hit on the Stars’ Tanner Kero, sending him to the ice and knocking him out. He lay on the ice for a few minutes as he was attended to by medical staff, with players all on one knee looking on to make sure he was okay. Connolly was assessed a five minute major and a game misconduct.

After a bit more back and forth, the Stars broke into the offensive zone, with Joel Pavelski sending the puck off of Seth Jones’ skate and past Lankinen on an unfortunate bounce to put the Stars up 1–0.

With the Stars getting every second of the five-minute power play, they kept pouring it on and getting more and more, getting a few good chances on net, but nothing else got past the goaltender until Pavelski again tipping the puck into the back of the net to make it 2–0.

Only about a minute after that power play ended, the Blackhawks went back onto the penalty kill with Dominik Kubalik getting called for a hook. To make matters worse, just nine seconds into that power play, Jake McCabe put the puck over the glass for a delay of game penalty, giving the Stars a two-man advantage. Luckily, the Blackhawks were able to kill off both of those penalties, giving them full strength again to try to make something happen to claw back into the game. The closest chance the Blackhawks got was a rush into the zone with a quick one-timer from Dylan Strome being saved by Jake Oettinger in tight.

Second period

The first four minutes of the period were relatively uneventful until Thomas Harley put the puck over the glass for a delay of game penalty, giving the Blackhawks their first power play of the game. Erik Gustafsson broke into the zone, passing the puck to Patrick Kane, who got it over to Alex DeBrincat, who put the puck past Oettinger, making it 2–1 Stars.

Just after the ensuing face-off, just 14 seconds later, Jason Robertson won a board battle and backhanded the puck over the shoulder of Lankinen, making it 3–1 Stars, and restoring a two-goal cushion for Dallas.

A few minutes later, the Blackhawks got one back. Jani Hakanpaa’s stick broke, and he could not get in the way of Strome when Brandon Hagel took the puck into the offensive zone, getting it across to Strome, who putting it past a sprawling Oettinger to make it 3–2 Stars.

Again, the Blackhawks found themselves on the penalty kill when Gustafsson got called for interference on a silly penalty to take (but what else is new for our favorite Blackhawk?). The game was almost 4–2 Stars, but Ryan Suter got caught trying to throw the puck into the net, so the goal was disallowed, and would keep the score at 3–2 instead.

The Blackhawks got back onto the man advantage on a hook from Miro Heiskanen. They were not able to convert on that man advantage, and the period would end in a score of 3–2 Stars.

Third period

This period started off with pure action, with both teams getting plenty of chances on each other’s nets, but neither team being able to put the puck past the opposing goaltender.

The Blackhawks were briefly on the power play once again before Jones took down Esa Lindell to make the numbers evened up again at four per side.

Lankinen stood on his head in the third, doing everything in his power to keep the puck out of the net and give the Blackhawks a chance to climb back in to tie the game.

Roope Hintz had a terrible turnover after the Blackhawks gave the puck up themselves, giving the puck to Hagel, who threw the puck on net, with a deflection by Kubalik and past a surprised Oettinger to tie the game at 3–3. The Blackhawks poured it on, getting far more chances in the waning minutes of the third than they got the entire rest of the game. The Blackhawks got the goal they were searching for, bringing it to the end of the third with the score being tied.

Overtime

Things got off to a rip-roaring start, with the Blackhawks getting some great chances, as Kane got a breakaway chance off of a 2-on-0 rush up the ice with DeBrincat, but was not able to do anything with it.

Kane then took a hooking penalty, as he was very gassed going back and forth up and down the ice. The Stars would score on that ensuing power play, when Lankinen bit too hard on some back and forth passes by the Stars, with John Klingberg putting the puck past a diving Lankinen to win the game for the Stars, and making it a 4–3 final in favor of the Stars.

Analysis

The Blackhawks were essentially playing from behind all game long, as they were down very quickly after the five minute power play for the Stars on Connolly’s major penalty. They did well to fight back, but ultimately could not play effective or tough enough defense, allowing themselves to be bodied out of possession too many times, which allowed for more chances on net. They asked Lankinen to do a lot, and he proved up to the task, but it was not a night where he was enough to single-handedly stop some of these goals from the Stars without being bailed out more by the defense.

The Blackhawks are back in action on Thursday against the same Dallas Stars at 7:30 p.m. CST. Their Tuesday night game against the Florida Panthers game has been postponed to a later date. Coverage for the Dallas rematch will be on NBC Sports Chicago.

On the eve of the NHL trade deadline, the Blackhawks took on the Dallas Stars. The Stars were shining brightly in February winning five of their last seven coming into there Sunday matchup. With trade rumors swirling around the team, the Blackhawks had to hunker down and focus on the Stars.

In a must-have game for the Blackhawks, they were dominated early by the Stars. At one point in the first period, the Stars were outshooting the Blackhawks 10-4. With Corey Crawford fighting for his life, the Stars finally broke through. The defensemen of the Blackhawks failed to put a body on veteran winger Joe Pavelski, who picked up juicy rebound for the first goal of the game.

The Blackhawks were lucky to escape the first period trailing by only one goal. In the second period, searching for their first goal of the game, The Blackhawks drew a penalty on the Stars. On the ensuing faceoff, Dominik Kubalik scored a goal off the faceoff or did he?

After having a goal waved off due to a controversial penalty, the Blackhawks had to regroup and refocus on tying the game. Soon after, Kubalik blasted a laser past Stars goalie Anton Khudodin. It was Kubalik’s 26th goal of the season and his 20th goal in his last 33 games.

Kubalik was one of the highlights of the game yesterday. Later in the second period, Stars forward Tyler Sequin got loose in front of the net and snuck a puck past Crawford to give the Stars the lead. With the Blackhawks reeling from the Seguin goal, Duncan Keith hooked Mattias Janmark with three minutes left in the period. Janmark was awarded a penalty shot.

Crawford stonewalling Janmark ended the second period and provided one of the biggest bright spots of the game. In the third period, the Blackhawks tried to mount a comeback but were unavailable to solve Khudobin for the second time of the game. The Blackhawks fell to the Stars 2-1.
