]]> The Colorado Eagles announced today that they have brought back former captain Jayson Megna. The forward spent three seasons with the Colorado Avalanche organization, playing as a center and wing. Megna was a known leader on and off the ice, sharing the captaincy with returning defenseman Jacob MacDonald in 2021–22. Megna, a native from Ft. Lauderdale, signed a two-year, one-way AHL contract with the Eagles.

Waivers and claimed

The Avalanche had planned for Megna to be one of the main bubble players during the fall of 2022. He was fighting for a spot on the roster from day one of training camp. The speedy center got recalled just a couple of games into the season and stuck around. From the middle of October to the beginning of December, he was a regular in the lineup. When the Avalanche felt they needed to send Megna down, they placed him on waivers. Unfortunately for Eagles’ fans, the Anaheim Ducks could not pass up the opportunity. Megna was a mainstay in Anaheim, playing 41 games for them that season.

Last season

Despite playing his second most NHL games in a season, Megna could only gain a one-year, two-way contract with the Boston Bruins. As for the NHL, it was a disappointing year, with Boston only playing him in one game. He played with Providence, Boston’s AHL affiliate, for the rest of the season. Megna would play 69 (of 72) regular season games, tallying 56 points (19–37).

Conclusion

Megna will bring many things to the Eagles this year. He will bring speed down the middle and the ability to win key faceoffs. The University of Nebraska-Omaha attendee can play on both the power play and the penalty kill as well. Do not overlook him as an important player, considering his 204 NHL games and 484 AHL games of experience. Megna may only have 33 (12–21) NHL points, but the experience of what it takes to get to the show is priceless. With many youthful faces around the Eagles, he will have the responsibility to step up as a leader this year.
