]]> The Colorado Avalanche have signed goaltender Trent Miner to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2024–25 season. The Brandon, Manitoba native, who the Colorado Avalanche drafted as a seventh-round pick in 2019 (202nd overall), emerged victorious in a significant goalie battle this season.

Miner’s career year

Miner put forward career numbers in every category for his AHL play this season. He posted a 9–6–1–1 record in 18 games. His 2.10 goals allowed average was the best of all the goaltenders that played for the Colorado Eagles this past season. Miner’s .930 save percentage was also top on the team.

Earlier in the season, Justus Annunen went down to a lower body injury. This opened up an opportunity for Miner to battle with Arvid Holm for the crease. As Holm’s numbers slipped, stepped in and seized the chance to grab the starting crease. Head coach Aaron Schneekloth was getting to a point that Miner was going to get the net without hesitation every night. This even would happen on back-to-back games.

With a restricted free agent status coming up in July, Miner all but guaranteed himself an offer for next year.

A lower-body injury that Miner suffered on March 20th would unfortunately take him out for the rest of the season. He would return to the bench for the second round of the Calder Cup Playoffs, but not see any game action.

Conclusion

Miner has become a goalie that the Eagles came to depend on this last season. With the poor performance of Holm, he stepped up when they needed him and earned his contract. He may have been rough around the edges to start the year, but goalie coach Peter Budaj quickly fixed that. We have seen a similar improvement with Annunen once Budaj could work with him as well. Miner could see his first NHL game this season and it has been a long time coming.
