BREAKING: Blackhawks Recall Delia, Ward Out 7-10 Days

In a surprise move, Tuesday, the Blackhawks recalled goaltender Collin Delia from the Rockford Icehogs of the AHL on an emergency basis.

Shortly after recalling Delia, they also announced that goaltender Cam Ward would not be available for 7-10 days with a right knee injury. Ward last played on Sunday evening in San Jose, taking the loss and giving up four goals on 33 shots.  It is not known when he was hurt, but NBCSN’s Charlie Roumeliotis found some footage of Ward’s knee buckling lat in the game.

Delia was sent to Rockford on February 25, following the activation of Corey Crawford from injured reserve. In his first stint with the Blackhawks he was 6-4-3 with a 3.48 GAA and a .909 save percentage. In his two games back with the Icehogs, Delia went 2-0 with five goals against while saving 39 of 44 shots.

Before being sent to Rockford, he signed a 3-year extension to remain with the Blackhawks

knee injuries for a goaltender are never good but with an older goalie they are worse. Grant Fuhr’s leg problems were well known and he had his own physio-therapist to get him ready to play later in his career with St Louis. No doubt his career was cut short because of it.

Had Cam Ward played as well as he has this season for the Hawks, he’d have been resigned by Carolina. If he gets a contract for next year or not remains to be seen. A guy who had alot of success early in his career, but his fortunes went the same way as Carolina’s from 2006 on.

On the right team, who knows where he’d be in terms of wins and losses for his career. A good guy and a good professional. I wish him a speedy recovery and another year or two in the NHL.
