BREAKING: Kraken unload Lauzon and Appleton to Predators and Jets

The Seattle Kraken continued to stockpile draft picks in two separate moves on Sunday, after trading Calle Jarnkrok, Mark Giordano and Colin Blackwell earlier in the week.

The first move was 24-year-old defenseman Jeremy Lauzon getting sent to the Nashville Predators for a 2022 second-round draft pick. Lauzon was acquired in last summer’s expansion draft from the Boston Bruins. He appeared in 53 games this year for the Kraken, where he put up six points (one goal, five assists) and racked up 67 penalty minutes with his hard-nosed play.

The second deal of the evening was 26-year-old forward Mason Appleton getting sent to the Winnipeg Jets for a 2023 fourth-round draft pick. Appleton returns to the team that drafted him in 2015. He appeared in 49 games for the Kraken and put up 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in a mostly bottom-six role after being the Kraken’s expansion draft selection from the Jets.

The Kraken have now acquired eight future draft picks for five roster players within the last week. Seattle may be done dealing, but do not rule out another lower-level deal before the deadline strikes zero at noon PDT today.
