BREAKING: Crawford Activated, Johnson Reassigned

In preparation for the return of Corey Crawford, tonight, forward Luke Johnson was reassigned to the Rockford Icehogs.

As first reported by Scott Powers of The Athletic from the optional morning skate, the Blackhawks will reassign Luke Johnson to Rockford, to make room for Corey Crawford to be activated for injured reserve, prior to the game against the Arizona Coyotes.

Coach Joel Quenneville announced that Corey Crawford will return to game action for the first time since giving up three goals on just seven shots in 13:22 against the New Jersey Devils on December 23, 2017 and subsequently being diagnosed with post-concussion symptoms following the contest. Crawford only practiced once before training camp started in September and has been handled very carefully by the team since stepping back on the MB Ice Arena ice.

In a corresponding move, center Luke Johnson will be sent to Tucson to join the Rockford Icehogs, prior to their game tomorrow against the Roadrunners. The 24-year-old, former fifth round draft pick played in three of the first five Blackhawks games this season and had no points. In mainly a fourth line/checking role, Johnson played between Marcus Kruger and a rotating cast of right wings. Johnson also played at University of North Dakota with current Blackhawks teammate Nick Schmaltz in 2014-15 and 2015-16.

Crawford will face an offensively struggling Arizona Coyotes team, tonight at the United Center. Puck drop is 7:30.
