Fuel’s Matt Tomkins Named ECHL Goaltender of the Week

After an outstanding two games this past weekend, Indy Fuel goaltender Matt Tomkins was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week. Tomkins also won this award with the Fuel last year in December.

Tomkins has led the Fuel to a 3-1 record so far this year, all over divisional opponents, including two this past weekend against the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Toledo Walleye.

The 24-year-old from Edmonton, Alberta, finished the week with a 1.92 goals-against-average and a .947 save percentage.

In four games so far this year, Tomkins has recorded a 2.47 goals-against-average and a .926 save percentage while facing the 10th-most shots against per game (34.00).

The Fuel and IceHogs are in a bit of a logjam currently goaltender-wise. Check out Mario Tirabassi’s article on the goaltending situation here.
