Steel Trade For Blackhawks Prospect Slavin, Orland Park Native Carrick

The Chicago Steel made a mid season trade, this afternoon, to bolster their roster for the Clark Cup stretch run. They acquired forward (and Blackhawks draft pick) Josiah Slavin as well as defenseman Hunter Carrick from the Lincoln Stars in exchange for forward Ryan Doolin, draft picks, and future considerations.

Slavin, a 6’3″ 190 lbs. (primarily) left-wing, is a 2018 7th round selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the NHL Entry Draft. He is also is the younger brother of former Steel and current Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin.  He has served at the Lincoln captain and is second on the team in scoring with 28 points (10G,18A) in 32 games.  During this summer’s Blackhawks development camp he turned quite a few heads, but is committed to Colorado College for next season.

Carrick, a 6’1′ 183 lbs Orland Park native, is the younger brother of another NHLer in defenseman Connor Carrick.  He has two goals in ten games this season for the Stars, and is committed to Penn State next season.

Lincoln will also receive the Steel’s 2019 Phase 2 2nd, 3rd, and 9th Round picks as well as a conditional 2020 Phase 1 3rd Round pick as well as future considerations. Chicago also receives Lincoln’s 2019 Phase 2 4th round pick as part of the trade.

The Steel return to the Fox Valley Ice Arena for a pair of weekend games against the defending Clark Cup Champion Fargo Force on Saturday, Jan. 26 and Sunday, Jan. 27. Saturday is Game of Thrones Night, celebrating the matchup between the last two Clark Cup Champions. It’s also a Raising Cane’s Kids Day with a $10 deal for kids that includes a Red Zone ticket, Steel drawstring backpack and free Raising Cane’s kids combo card. Sunday is a Steel Family Pack game on Trains, Trains, Trains day presented by Wausau Homes North Aurora. Guess it was the last week I posted somewhere here that Slavin would be an add similar to the Steel adding Jack Badini in season the yr they won the cup.   A 2 way player who’s contribution goes way beyond the scoresheet.  Great add for any team, glad the kid is a Steel now.   But don’t go to sleep on Carrick.   Can’t have enough Dmen especially in the playoffs.  Big kid, so is Slavin, that will help knock around some Jacks when they decide to get jiggy wit it.  Wouldn’t mind seeing a 13th forward to deal with and take Joshua off the ice for 15-20 minutes a game ………….

Carrick makes me wonder if CSS 2nd rd ranked Dman Jacckson LaCombe will be back after chasing HS dreams and if Dman Ruikka is more injured than I feared after going feet first into the end boards at speed v the 17’s last month never to be seen since.

Pietroniro-Spetz-Staum-Power-Reid-Dowd-Vasanen-Carrick-Ruikka-LaCombe.   No doubt a glut but a nice problem to have.

Told anyone who would listen the Steel will trade the future X10 to win this yr while the owners’ boys are the #1 goalie and 2C with tons of PP time.  Buckle up Steel fans doubt their done, at least as long as they have more future to trade.
