SUMMARY:

The strange calculus of NHL season’s end: the Hawks would love to move up in the draft lottery, while the Ducks are desperately trying to solidify playoff position—yet both teams will make some (relative) effort to win today.

The Hawks came to life yesterday afternoon after the second period versus the LA Kings, coming away with a somewhat unlikely 5-3 victory after scoring 3 third period goals.

As bad as this season has been for Chicago (and Hawk fans), there is enough talent on this roster for games like yesterday’s to happen now and then.

JF Berube is the likely starter today, and if there’s any truth to the theory floated recently that he and Anton Forsberg are in competition for the Hawks’ backup goalie job next season, then Berube needs a much better outing today than in his last versus San Jose.

    This team defense is dreadful.

Other than skating ability, I’ve been really disappointed in Duclair.  He seems to have no hands. Or hockey smarts.

As JJ mentioned the flavor of the month.  Bowman overpaid Panek and then dumped him for Duclair.  Hands of stone there in front of the net.  PP crapping the bed again…Edzo pointed it out gotta go to the net on that play.  And the passing good lord.

I just watched Toews get pushed off the puck like a 12 year old playing against a grown man.

Either Toews has gotten on the tank band wagon…..or he’s got a physical problem…..or he’s washed up.

I’m hoping after the season it’s revealed he played hurt all year.

Toews is more valuable on the ice than in the box.  I know, I know, Im CONTROVERSIAL.

Hot take:  Woof, this team blows.

I believe the NHL could easily increase scoring with a very simple rule change:  when a delayed penalty is called, and a team scores, they should get the PP even if they score.  The other team hasnt touched the puck, so why do you not get the Power Play?  Because you pulled the goalie?  No.  You should get the power play.  And I believe a second change is you get the full time of the penalty on the PP.  You dont get one goal.  You should get the full 2 minutes for a minor penalty.

They want more scoring.  Thats easy to change.

Oesterle.   Woof.  That cross ice pass cannot happen there.   Lesser players than him have been waived for passes like that.

    That was a Rundblad Special.

Ramblings: Thoughts on Ellis, Staal, Bjugstad, Jost and more … (Mar 05)

I think the Blackhawks knew what they were doing when they traded Ryan Hartman. I had never been impressed with him as a prospect, and then I was shocked when he became an NHL regular last year. I was shocked again when he began the season with five big games. But he’s since come back down to earth and now he’s just another depth guy. Really not impressed with what I’ve seen, nor the stat trends with him. The Hawks got a first-round pick and a solid prospect in Victor Ejdsell.

We need to have a talk about Duncan Keith.  He has either totally checked out this season, or he has declined faster than we had thought he might.

The Blackhawks defense begins and ends with Keith.  If he is going to be average, then they are gonna be average or worse.  He just isnt very good anymore.

Nobody is going to tell me otherwise, I believe that Sharp being back in the room has had disastrous effects.  Watch Keith have a bounce back season next year.
