SUMMARY:

As the final weeks of this insufferable season trudge on, the Blackhawks face the Colorado Avalanche tonight at the United Center. The only Hawks players coming into this contest hot, is Alex Debrincat. He is coming off his third hat trick of the year (a Blackhawks record). Most of the rest of this team is a mess. The defense has been porous and the goalies have followed suit. They could play spoilers but, if the Blackhawks have shown us anything, they have proven that they only thing we can truly expect is that they will physically show up. Everything else is out the window.

Norwegian forward Andreas Martinsen will make his Blackhawks debut after being recalled this morning on an Emergency (injury) basis replacing Matthew Highmore, who was injured against the Blues.  Martinsen will be the first Norwegian player to ever suit up for the Blackhawks.  History, folks!

The Avs hold a slim lead on one of playoff wild card spots but Dallas and St. Louis are hot on their tail, just two and three points behind, respectively. With ten games remaining, the playoff race in Denver could come down to the game vs the Blackhawks in a couple of weeks.

At this point I’m excited to see anyone called up from Rockford and given a shot. Never know where a guy will fit in, or if he brings something to the table that can rub off on other guys. Plus in a season like this seeing something different on the ice, for better or for worse, is at least interesting.

I dunno.  he’s 27.  If Martison was anything special he probably would have showed it by now.

LOL – true to all comments. Martinesen won’t impact much, I’m just all for a new look given that this season is a loss.

Why don’t the Hawks look this engaged all the time? Youth and inexperience?

Unsure… did some googling and there’s not a ton of info on him in any aspect.

I’m jinxing the hell out of it but Forsberg looks locked in. Is everyone convinced he’s nothing? I really feel like he hasn’t ever gotten enough consistent playing time to show what he’s got in the NHL. Maybe it’s naive of me, but he looks good bout 95% of the time, and he carries himself in net like he knows what he’s doing. Clean up the egregious goal every now and then, and he really is not bad.

Not sure if anyone listened to the Lazerus/Meyers podcast today, but they talked about how the Hawks the last few years played at less than 100% during a good amount of regular season games because they were that much more talented relative to the rest of the league, and then come crunch/playoff time they turn the jets on. I feel like this year is a wake up call – can’t do that anymore. Something tells me this Hawks team is going to come out next season with a fire under their ass and the results will be different. Just my take, but I think there’s something to it.

They need to use that period as a kind of measuring stick for this season. They looked more engaged across the board and somewhat-competent on defense.

Assuming the Hawks pick in the 7-9 range… who is the guy to pick?

If the Hawks go into next year with Forsberg as one of the two goalies and the same 5 or 6 Dmen….theyll be a lottery team.

@Chico Maki – who do you want to see gone from this Hawks team and who do you want to stay? Realistically. Meaning Seabs, Kieth Toews and Kane are staying- because I don’t see them being moved.
