The Seattle Kraken made an announcement regarding their AHL affiliate on Friday. The Kraken announced through their website that a new AHL team will take over for their sharing of the Charlotte Checkers and will be called the Coachella Valley Firebirds. The team is expected to start play for the 2022–23 season. As of this point, the contact location is listed as a Palm Desert, California, address.
According to the website, the team will play at Coachella Valley Arena, which will be a 10,000-seat music and sports arena that is branded as “Made for Music, Built for Hockey.” The building is in the process of being built and scheduled for opening in late 2022 at an estimated reported construction cost of $290 million.
