Rumors: Wednesday update, PHL, WSH, TB

Real quickly, as I tweeted a few minutes ago, the rumors are coming fast and furious this morning, and I suspect (and emphasize) there could be more conversations going on between the Blackhawks and other teams than those I’m reporting.

From the top:

WASHINGTON AND/OR TAMPA BAY

The Hawks had two pro scouts present for the game between these two teams last night, including Dir. of Pro Scouting Ryan Stewart. No players mentioned.

PHILADELPHIA

This could be a significant deal.

From Chicago: Artem Anisimov and Ryan Hartman for SOME COMBINATION, BUT LIKELY NOT ALL OF Val Fillipula, Michael Raffl and either Samuel Morin OR Travis Sanheim. The Hawks might also have to retain some of Anisimov’s salary. No idea whether AA has been asked to waive, but his NMC expires 7/1 anyway.

I’ll be checking in and posting as things break.

Is it just me or does this site crash a lot? I get error messages a lot when I try to log in.

Raffl is like 30 and Filipulla maybe 34. Not exactly a Bowman youth movement.

    ???

This would be a garbage trade.  Terrible.  All to get a 7/8th D man?  We have enough of those already.   Cant be real.

Looks like somewhat of a salary dump + trying to get a handle on another young big mobile defender who hasn’t quite put it all together yet.

I could see the Hawks wanting to poach a guy like Killorn not sure what Tampa would want to come off of in a playoff run unless Palat is out for close to the end of the season and they’re super desperate.

This would be a terrible trade and if it happened Stan should get canned.

I see where this trade would help Phi, but don’t see how it does much of anything for us. I’d pass on this quickly.

I might be interested in Travis Sabdheim. But, if AA and Hartman would be going to the Flyers, I’d want more than Filipula and Raffl.

Site is temporarily fixed. We are going to do a large adjustment that will solve the problem in the next few days.

As for the trade, just bear in mind, the Hawks are weak down the middle and have no secondary FO option to Toews. Filipula can be that, and that is worth something. Hawks have had interest in Raffl in the past but one of the young defenders, both recent first round picks would be key to the deal. You get some quality center depth and a defenseman to develop.

Sanheim, drafted 17th overall in 2014, 6’3″, 195 (with room to grow)

“Can move the puck rather well out of danger, and also contribute greatly on offense. Owns a very projectable frame. Is an asset on the power play. Defends his position well.”

    Morin, drafted 11th overall in 2013, 6’6″ 202

“Is a massive defenseman who should eventually fill out to become an intmididating force in the NHL. Moves the puck well, has plenty of shutdown upside and can also drop the gloves.”

Plus a really good faceoff guy who can play anywhere between 2C and 3C

For a 2C/3C who is terrible on faceoffs and a 3rd line wing (which is what Hartman is). I don’t know, I actually think it’s a pretty good deal for the Hawks, who have NOTHING like either of those D prospects in their system.

Flippula is going to be 34 in a month, and is a UFA this is a cap dump and does not bring any value to the trade unless we can flip him before the trade deadline.    the D prospects are not bad but would need to get both of them.

Stan couldn’t possibly be that stupid, a 33 year old UFA, and a struggling 29 year old winger that’s scored a total of 29 points in the last two seasons and a prospect for AA and Hartman and we’re supposed to retain salary for being fleeced.

A cap dump for a very good defensive prospect isn’t necessarily the worst thing. Probably means they are moving money around to make potential room for something else. I think they would need to include a pick of some sorts as well.

And what is Hartman now? He has scored 15 and 19 goals, shown a fair level of skill but has been all over the line up this year. If Shaw is the barometer then you’re looking at 2 or more million over two years except he doesn’t seem to be getting the same leash from Q. Maybe with guys like Highmore and Hayden and even Hino – they think they have that third line energy Swiss army knife guy covered and for cheaper.

If you can use Hartman to shed some salary and get a big young high ceiling defender then maybe that isn’t a bad thing. And maybe you resign Filppula for those 2-3 million you’d spend on Hartman to help out with the younger guys and play that 3rd pivot role. Its probably a good deal for both teams if you look at it that way.

Raffl is a bottom 6 guy–we have plenty of those types.

Filipula is gonna be 34.   I’ll grant you he’s better on faceoffs than AA.  Did I read right, Hawks would be paying part of AA’s salary too??

If Sandheim is included, he damn well better turn into a top 4 Dman.

    I would take the 2 D-men and maybe a couple of picks. Something like a 2nd & a 3rd or 4th.

the Bowman love affair with smurf size players at the draft now comes back to bite. As we saw 2 nights ago vs the Kings, ya gotta have a few big guys to push into the zone and control the boards

    Discussion went like this:

Stan: Hey Ron, I’m interested in one of your young defensive prospects, Travis Sanheim. Is he possibly available?

Ron: He might be Stan, but we might be willing to make Samual Morin available.

Stan: What would it take if we were interested in one of them?

Ron: While I have you on the phone I’m wondering if Artem Anisimov is available or possibly Ryan Hartman?

Stan: They might be but I’m really interested in Sanheim or what’s his name oh yeah Morin.

Ron: Would you consider Filppula and Raffi for Anisimov and Hartman?

Stan: Maybe but like I said I’m really interested in either Sanheim or that Morin guy. What would it take to get one of them?

Ron: If you’d be willing to retain half of Anisimov’s salary we could probably throw in Morin.

Stan: I’ll have to talk to John about that and get back to you Ron, thanks.

Sadly, that’s probably not far from the truth.
