Rockford IceHogs Sign Brett Welychka To AHL Contract

  

On Wednesday afternoon, the Rockford IceHogs announced they have agreed to terms with forward Brett Welychka on a one-year, AHL contract for the 2018-19 season. Welychka previously played eight games for the Manitoba Moose last season after completing three years at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Last season, Welychka completed his third year at Carleton University, leading the team in scoring with 31 points (12G, 19A) in 28 games while serving at Team Captain. The 5-10, 185-pound Center spent the last three years at Carleton University, tallying 98 points (36G, 62A) in 72 games.

Last season ended with Welychka playing eight games with the Manitoba Moose in March on an ATO (Amateur Tryout Contract), recording a goal and an assist in those eight games.

Welychka previously played for the London Knights and Belleville Bulls in the Ontario Hockey League from 2011-2015 and served as Captain of the Bulls in the 2014-15 season.

Welychka’s OHL career consisted of 148 points (64G, 84A) in 242 regular season games, 14 points (7G, 7A) in 33 postseason games, and he was back-to-back OHL Champion London Knights in the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.
