Analysis:

If there’s a relatively easy road opener for the Hawks, this might be it.

Still, the two teams played essentially even in the preseason, both 2-4 and even splitting two games played against eachother. In truth, while Ottawa is a team openly in rebuild mode, the Hawks are, well, no one’s quite sure what the Hawks are—except by all indicators, they are clearly no longer a Cup contender and their playoff worthiness is suspect at best. So, tonight’s game could easily go either way.

Former Hawk goalie and Barrington High School alumnus, Craig Anderson, begins his 15th NHL season, and gets the start in net for the Senators.

Hayden gets 8 hits and a fight.  Hawks lose 3-1.   Keith scores lone goal.

Going to be tough for Hayden to get 8 hits and fight from the press box.

At least they’re playing the worst team in the league the first game.

The games this weekend will be pretty challenging though.

That bottom six, offensively,  is challenged, to say the least.

If the Hawks skate those same bottom six guys all year….what’s the total points from those guys?  65?

I wish Seabrook would be a bit more physical this year. Make up for noticeable lack of speed to give the team something it definitely needs

Wow, does this look like last year or what? Little more oomph offensively early, but the D skating around like they’re on fire.

If they’re this bad defensively against a team like the Sens….what can they do against good teams?

    Yikes

Manning is not good.  Otherwise, I thought it was fine.  Give it 12-15 games.  Ward woke up, but he cant have a first period like that against better teams.

Manning and Seabrook is a bad pair.  Manning and anyone is a bad pair.

If the power play is just LEAGUE AVERAGE, they should have no problem making the playoffs.  Had they scored 20 extra goals last year, just one more PP goal every 4 games, they would have been in 5th place.  Just 10 more PP goals and they would have been league average.  It should be pretty easy with their talent to score at will on the PP.  Yet the PP is garbage.  And still is garbage.  That is on the coaching.  100%,  Hawks were tied for 4th in power play opportunities.  They have plenty of chances, and they dont convert or even come close.  Fix this and many of their other deficiencies will be masked a bit.

Fix the PP.  If it doesnt get fixed by about game 15-18, find some better coaches.
